Beyond the Suitcase: Planning Luggage for a Private Jet Charter

From family suitcases to golf clubs and shopping bags, what you bring can shape your aircraft choice. Here is how to plan luggage before confirming a charter.

Start with the luggage, not just the passenger count

An aircraft that comfortably seats your group may not accommodate everything you intend to bring. Baggage capacity depends on more than weight: compartment shape, door dimensions, and how individual pieces can be secured all matter. A large rigid suitcase may be harder to load than several smaller soft-sided bags.

Before requesting a charter, prepare a simple inventory: passenger count, number of bags, approximate dimensions and weight, and any unusual items. Share photographs and measurements of oversized pieces. EasyTrip can use these details when coordinating suitable options with licensed operators; acceptance should be confirmed for the specific aircraft offered.

Flag the items that need special attention

Golf clubs, ski equipment, folded strollers, wheelchairs, and large presentation cases deserve an early mention. Include their dimensions when packed, rather than the dimensions of the item alone. If something cannot be folded, tilted, or stacked, explain that too.

Batteries, power banks, aerosols, perfumes, and other restricted items require separate checks. Private charter does not remove aviation safety or customs requirements. Give the operator details of relevant items, particularly battery-powered mobility aids, and ask for packing and carriage instructions before departure. Do not assume an item accepted on a previous trip will automatically be accepted again.

Separate what you need in flight

Not every private jet has a baggage compartment that can be accessed during flight. Pack a compact cabin bag with passports, essential medication, valuables, children's necessities, and anything you may need before landing. Confirm the available cabin storage rather than assuming a full-sized suitcase can stay beside your seat.

For formalwear, ask whether suitable hanging space is available. For fragile or high-value purchases, discuss packaging and secure stowage in advance; an empty seat is not automatically an approved place for luggage. If an item needs temperature control, obtain explicit confirmation of what can be provided.

Plan for the return journey and every connection

Outbound luggage is only part of the calculation. Shopping, gifts, and equipment collected during the trip can change your requirements for the return sector. Tell your charter coordinator if you expect to travel home with more than you take out, especially when different aircraft may operate different legs.

Consider the whole journey as well. An aircraft may accommodate your bags while a hotel transfer, yacht tender, or onward helicopter cannot. Confirm luggage arrangements across each connection, and request a larger vehicle or separate baggage transfer when needed. If shipping purchases separately, check customs, insurance, and delivery arrangements before relying on that option.

Confirm a practical packing plan before departure

Ask for written confirmation that your declared luggage can be accommodated on the proposed aircraft, subject to the operator's final operational checks. Passenger numbers, baggage weight, fuel requirements, and route conditions can affect what is feasible. If the aircraft changes, request a fresh luggage check rather than relying on the original approval.

Your final checklist should be simple: a complete bag count, measurements for bulky pieces, clearance for restricted items, a cabin essentials bag, and transfers sized for both people and luggage. Report additions as soon as possible. Early clarity helps the operator plan safely and makes the journey feel effortless from your front door to your destination.
